Hold tight! We are taking off on a journey through tradition and creativity and the best of local food: olive oil, Pecorino cheese, pici pasta, beans, Chianina beef and Cinta Senese pork. Our first stop is the SaporDivino restaurant of the Grand Continental Siena - Starhotels Collezione (Banchi di Sopra, 85), where chef Luca Ciaffarafà reinterprets traditional Tuscan cooking in the most sublime way.
The restaurant that gourmet cuisine lovers will not want to miss is the two-Michelin-starred Arnolfo, in Colle di Val d’Elsa, run by multi-awarded chef Gaetano Trovato. The menu is based on the use of the best locally-sourced and organic ingredients prepared with a contemporary spin on traditional culinary techniques. Another Michelin-starred restaurant: La Bottega del 30 in Castelnuovo Berardenga, just a few kilometers away from our hotel. Only 30 seats and Tuscan cuisine with a French touch added by the cook Hélène.
Our next stop is the famous Piazza del Campo. PorriOne (Via del Porrione, 28) offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Try the pigeon cooked in different ways and the cinnamon-flavored duck breast. We also recommend Enoteca I Terzi where you could coddle your taste with handmade pasta, you could appreciate the famous “Chianina” meat, and the delicious cakes. At snack time, pizza, ciaccina (stuffed schiacciata) and a good glass of wine. Where? At Piccola Ciaccineria (Via S.Pietro, 52): choose the pizza or schiacciata stuffed with traditional Sienese cold cuts.
